Art And Physics Entanglement for Radius Art Gallery

In quantum physics, entanglement happens when two or more particles from the same origin become linked and share spatial proximity even when separated by large distances. To visualize this entanglement, the artist had to ensure the particles shared their origin and then free them in space while exposing the visibility of their entanglement. The lenses of quantum entanglement are a transformative force within creative practices. They inspire this artist to explore the essence of reality and interconnectedness and encourage her to dismantle traditional disciplinary boundaries and walls.

Unique Properties

To the project's designer, the definition of "Collective Mind" differs from the sociological and psychological points of view. It represents a powerful symbol of the shared understanding that poets, artists, musicians, believers, scientists, elephants, butterflies, dogs, birds, plants, trees, rivers, oceans, and other living elements connect and react to the impact of the Universe around us all.She visualizes a collective mind where: 1- The perception of beauty resides in the interplay between the dazzling Sky's aesthetics and theoutstanding accomplishments in fundamental laws of physics. 2- She explores a possible similarity between an explosive universe giving birth to multiple baby universes and the informative explosion within the collective mind. 3- She likes the word "Mind" because it allows her to introduce the wiring concept we all experience within each other's minds and with other minds. 4- Artistically, this project aims to visualize the Universe as the grandiose "Collective Mind."

Production Technology

The design originated from the artist's profound concept that the Universe is the ultimate "Collective Mind." She intentionally covered the entire background of the artwork in deep, velvety black paint, which is not merely a technical decision but a thought-provoking metaphor for the mysterious nature of dark matter in the Universe. This rich black backdrop highlights and enhances the vibrancy of the foreground colors, especially the striking reds and luminous hues. It invites the audience to engage with and interpret the mastery of color contrast. This technique mirrors the role of dark matter, which, although unseen and elusive, provides the essential gravitational framework that allows galaxies and stars to shine with exceptional clarity and brilliance.

Design Challenge

After years of experimenting with paint, the artist realized her innovative work needed scientific recognition. She sought acknowledgment based on the scientific principles of her materials and methods, intentionally excluding the use of paintbrushes. This focus highlighted the chemical and physical properties of her materials. Her key approaches include reading popular science literature to deepen her understanding, exploring gravity's role in space geometry in her studio, and engaging with physicists on Twitter since 2011 to share her findings. A significant challenge is obtaining valuable data from her art experiments, which require tools only found in astrophysics labs.

Project Duration

"Collective Mind" was created in February, 2007 in San Rafael, California, and has been exhibited in the following locations over the years: – Published in The Encyclopedia of Living Artists, Los Angeles, CA. – Finalist: Award Sponsor: FASO; Judge: BoldBrush Jury – Visual Projection – International Progressive Rock Festival, Palace of Fine Arts, San Francisco, CA – Multiple Projections – Cell Space, San Francisco, CA – Solo Projection – Chabot Space Planetarium, Oakland, CA – Multiple Solo Open Studios – Bay Area, CA

Operation Flow

This innovative project aspires to revolutionize the collaboration between art designers and scientists, fostering a deeper cultural understanding while making significant strides in our comprehension of colors and shapes. As a dynamic educational tool, the design vividly illustrates the intricate interplay between physics and art. Notably, the profound mystery of dark matter and energy, which constitutes a staggering 95% of the universe's total composition, illuminates the extraordinary transformative potential of this initiative, inviting exploration and wonder.

Research

Some critics argue that combining artistic expression with scientific inquiry may undermine the rigor typically found in scientific research. However, this project adopts a distinctive approach, fostering a thoughtful exploration of a significant question: When did the aesthetic appeal of color distribution in the universe become disconnected from the essence of art? Additionally, when did art begin to separate itself from the fundamental elements of color, shape, light, and motion? Review from Paul Halpern, PhD Professor of Physics, University of the Sciences, Philadelphia, PA Dear Nouzha, Thanks for sharing images of your experimental artwork. It is truly brilliant. What an amazing idea to employ physical ideas to create your art. I am highly impressed. Your website design is phenomenal too; it really highlights the range of your work. I like the references to physicists who are very familiar to me. Yes I can see your art being used as a tool to help understand science. All the best

Inspiration

Generally speaking, the term "Collective Mind" refers to the human capacity to think and act together, leaving individual differences. This project's title stems from: 1- A sociological perspective with concepts likecollective consciousness (Émile Durkheim and Antonio Gramsci) 2- The psychological angle focuses on people sharing attention and experiencing a sense of togetherness. Distinct but related to the collective mind is the Collective Unconscious (Carl Jung). 3- Collective mind applications, for example, in teamwork, improving collaboration and enhancing group efficiency. Within any society, collective minds surface with shared experiences that can bridge political and ideological divides.
